The Explorers: Lamar Hires
Lamar Hires
Explorer. Teacher. Leader. Mentor. These are some of the words used to describe Lamar Hires, president and owner of Dive Rite, a world-class company that manufactures Equipment for Serious Divers.

During the 70's and 80's, Lamar was one of the pioneer underwater cave explorers. He helped to map many of north-central Florida's cave sites. He has since gone on to be a leader in technical diving: he is an active cave and technical diving instructor, and he recently retired as Chairman of the prestigious National Speleological Society-Cave Diving Section (NSS-CDS). In 1997, he led an expedition to map and videotape virgin underwater cave in Japan's Akko-Do region.

Like a player/coach, Lamar sets the example Team Dive Rite members live by: Dive actively. Find out what serious divers really need. Make the equipment that meets those needs. Never compromise. Period.

The Explorers: Gary Gentile

Famous explorer Gary Gentile Enter the wild, exciting, and exotic world of Gary Gentile: author, lecturer, photographer, explorer, and deep sea wreck diver!

Gary started his diving career in 1970. Shortly thereafter, the lure of deep diving and a fascination with shipwrecks beckoned him to begin his wreck diving adventures.

By 1974, he was exploring the renowned Andrea Doria shipwreck, the Italian passenger liner that all wreck divers long to touch. Since then, he has made more than 150 dives to this famous ship, which lies fifty miles south of Nantucket at a depth of 240 feet in the cold and unforgiving Atlantic Ocean.
Gary was the first scuba diver to enter the Andrea Doria First Class Dining Room, where he recovered many examples of elegant china. He also recovered and restored hundreds of pieces of lovely jewelry and souvenir items from the Gift Shop area of the wreck while enveloped in the darkness and silt at 220 feet of depth.

Over the years, Gary has rescued many thousands of artifacts from the ravages of the sea. He has gone to great lengths to preserve and restore these relics. He displays them to tens of thousands of people from all walks of life at various museums and at local, club-oriented shows.

Gary is the author of more than two dozen books: volumes on wreck diving; nautical and shipwreck history; and, novels of science fiction and adventure. He's published scores of articles in magazines and newspapers, and thousands of his photographs have appeared worldwide.

This specialist in wreck diving and shipwreck research has another side to his life: that of an Outdoor Adventurer! In this guise, Gary has climbed rock and mountains, backpacked through country high and low, bivouacked in the snow, and paddled his canoe through rapids in untamed wilderness!

Enter a world of adventure and thrills, a world tempered by poetry and subtle beauty. Enter the world of Gary Gentile!
