Navy "Stockless" Anchor Pendant- Medium, Moveable
The stockless anchor is the standard for ships that may encounter many types of sea bottoms. Ruggedly constructed and of simple design, these anchors consist of a heavy head in which the crown, tripping palms, and flukes are forged in one piece. They do not have a stock (or crossbar), hence the term “stockless”. They are pivoted on the shank to swing 45 degrees to either side and have the advantages of tremendous dead weight, the ability to bite and take hold, and the design allows for easy handling, hoisting, and stowing.
In 1897, foundryman Frederick Baldt received a patent on the tumbling fluke Stockless Anchor. Subsequent modifications to the design resulted in the Baldt Stockless Anchor becoming the United States Navy’s anchor-of-choice.
Baldt Anchor & Chain has supplied its products to famous Battleships such as the USS Arizona and USS Missouri, as well as to luxury liners that include the SS Constitution and SS Independence.
This 14-kt gold, 3-dimensional version has the traditional 45-degree pivoting head with elongated and rounded flukes. The piece is highly polished and is heavy for it’s size.
