The modern, commercial Danforth Anchor is classified as a lightweight burying anchor with wide, sharp flukes. The stock on the head of the anchor helps to orient the large pivoting flukes into a digging position. Still used on some Naval ships, the Danforth is a popular choice for smaller craft.

Navy Anchor, Medium Pendant, Moveable (14-kt YG)

The stockless anchor is the standard for ships that may encounter many types of sea bottoms. These anchors consist of a heavy head in which the crown, tripping palms, and flukes are forged in one piece. They are pivoted on the shank to swing 45 degrees to either side. They do not have a stock (or crossbar), hence the term “stockless”.
The anchor of choice of the United States Navy is the Baldt Stockless Anchor. Our choice in 14-kt gold anchors measures 1-1/4”L x 5/8”W and weighs approx. 4.3 gm.
